Closing the Gap: Youth Education, the Digital Divide, and the Global Pursuit of SDG 4
Kush Dave (lead researcher), Ayushmaan Mukherjee, Anika Nandi, Lillianna Stroock
In an increasingly digital world, access to technology and the internet is no longer a luxury; it is a fundamental requirement for education, participation, and progress. This white paper examines how the digital divide presents a direct obstacle to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which calls for inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. The paper analyzes the consequences of digital exclusion on youth education, explores youth-led innovations and responses, and provides systematic solutions for bridging the gap. With over 2.7 billion people globally remaining unconnected and youth in underserved communities among the hardest hit, this research demonstrates that closing the digital divide is essential to meeting SDG 4 and ensuring no young person is excluded from educational opportunities.
